Step 4
Collection Support
Cokoon helps farmers connect production to the next stage through collection support and buy-back pathways subject to quality standards and prior agreement.

Ecosystem role
How this step supports the Cokoon model.
Collection support helps connect individual farm production with buyers, processing requirements, and market demand. Mushrooms are highly perishable, so growers need clear communication about expected harvest dates, quantities, quality standards, collection schedules, and handling requirements before the crop is ready.
Cokoon works to organise practical collection pathways where production volume, location, product quality, and market requirements make this possible. Collection or buy-back support is subject to prior agreement and cannot be treated as an automatic purchase guarantee. Farmers are encouraged to confirm arrangements before planning a production cycle for a specific market.
At the point of collection, mushrooms may be checked for freshness, maturity, cleanliness, damage, contamination, size, appearance, and handling condition. Produce that meets the agreed requirements can move to fresh sale, institutional supply, processing, or value addition. Clear acceptance standards help protect both growers and customers.
Good collection begins at the farm. Timely harvesting, clean containers, careful grading, protection from heat, and quick movement after harvest all influence shelf life and saleability. Farmers who understand these requirements can reduce post-harvest losses and deliver a more consistent product.
Production information also helps Cokoon plan demand and logistics. Advance details about likely harvest dates and quantities make it easier to coordinate transport, customer orders, processing batches, and alternative uses for surplus produce. This reduces last-minute uncertainty across the value chain.
Within the wider ecosystem, collection support provides the bridge between cultivation and the market. It gives farmers a clearer route beyond farm-gate production while helping Cokoon build an organised supply of fresh mushrooms and raw material for value-added products. The result is a more connected, quality-focused, and market-aware production network.
